Because dignity is not a privilege of the majority, it's up to us to defend it.

Since 1991, Amnesty International has been working on human rights violations regarding sexual orientation and gender identity minorities.
Amnesty International believes that everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, should benefit from all human rights.

And if every day, all around the world, governments, families and societies in general discriminate and use violence, imprisonments, torture and even death penalty against those minorities, the position of Amnesty International is that LGBT rights are human rights and that we all should fight for them.
The LGBT group from Amnesty International is being constituted with the purpose of putting into practice the directives of Amnesty International regarding sexual and gender identity rights. We want AI-Portugal to pay more attention to these issues.
Our form of action won't be much different from the one put into practice by the other groups of Amnesty. Demonstrations, announcements, petitions and street actions will mark our performance.
We will also try to work with concrete cases of human rights violations based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

To give a voice to those who don't have will always be our motto.
Because dignity is not a privilege of the majority, it's up to us to defend it.
